Shadows of the Past

Artjom Harlamov, professional detective in his middle thirties, has a new client: a Mr. SemjonPetrovich Lvov, second-hand book seller, who turnsup in his office with a letter of recommendation. Lvov had received from abroad an orderfor a very rare book from the personal collection of marshal Ney – one of the legendary associates of Napoleon Bonaparte. But in the early 90-s the trace of the book was lost, and Artjom – an experienced and qualified professional – is the only detective capable of tracking down the valuable rarity, at least he was recommended as oneby a friend of Lvov’s. Artjom agrees to take the case, but under one condition: Lvov must tell him all the truth: why does he need this book? Why is it so special? Is it dangerous? Despite the apparently innocent background of his search, Artjom finds himself involved in an adventurous and life-threatening plot…
